Introduction

The main aim of the TdW Extreme edition is to just complete the challenges.  That should be hard enough.  Check them out and give them a go... if you are extreme!

Event 1: Hour of Power

This is taken straight out of the UCI challenge book.  Do you consider yourself as good as Eddie Merckx or Ondrej Sosenka, the current 1hr record holder @ 49.700 kms.  Well this one is for you.  You will need to mentally prepare yourself for this one.  One hour on the velodrome is a very very long time.  Keep track of the number of laps.  If you are using a cycle computer that counts laps, be warned, some models can't handle over 99 laps, like mine.  I found out the hard way when it didn't record my results and I spend an hour for nothing.  Better yet, grab a friend who can keep track of the time and number of laps.  Good luck....

Rider Number of Laps Avg Speed
Peter Collins 117 38.96km/h
Matt Hickey 109 36.297km/h

Event 2: Alpe d'Huez, Toowoomba Style

Unfortunately we don't have to many long mountains in Toowoomba so we have to use our imagination for this one.  To compare to some of the big hills in Europe, this challenge involves climbing the range 5 times... in a row.  To complete this one, roll down the hill and turn around at the HillTop Estate turnoff at the bottom (where you start the Alpe d'Range challenge).  Ride to the top and turn right into Tourist Rd, and roll back down again.  Best to perform this on very early in the morning, but remember to use lights.

Event 3: Bunya's And Back

This one will test the endurance.  This one will be tackled in two days and you can make an event out of it.  Book ahead and grab a cabin at the Bunya's.  Ride out to Goombungee and from there it's up to you.  Pick the route that suites you best.  Enjoy a night and then come back.  You will need to make sure you have sufficient food and drink for this one.

Event 4: Fixie Fun

The challenge is simple, ride a fixie (fix geared bike) in the Brisbane to Gold Coast ride.  You earn the right to say you have pedaled every kilometer of the 100km event.
