Cunningham Classic - 6th August 2011

Elite B Report by Seb Scott

Race started relatively calm, we just stayed towards the back waiting until the climbs, progressed towards the front of the pack once the climbs got close . At the bottom of the KOM climb Peter Collins broke off the front like a mad man and managed to get to the top in front of the group and would have won the KOM if it wasn't for the 2 guys who were 3 minutes up the road which he had not known about ( oops ) . We proceeded to the feed zone which is also a bit of a killer climb and a good opportunity to shell some of the weaker riders that had only just managed to make it so far . I moved towards the front and helped push the pace up the climb then down the other side and it was a fast run towards the highway hitting speeds of 50 to 60 Km and still had guys trying to break off the front . We then turned onto the highway and to the long straight easier climbs . I drove it as hard as I could to catch a couple of breaks then we headed down the other side towards Allora where we finally caught the last man out the front ( he did an awesome job to stay out front by himself so long ) and then it was a fast run into the finish with little breaks trying their luck here and there but none allowed to much time off the front . The closer we got to Warwick the tougher the jostling for positions near the front became . We then turned left into the finish straight where Pete came around me and went for the sprint . James Rogers (man mountain) took the win by about half a wheel with Pete (5th) and the rest very tight. I rolled through in 11th and enjoyed a great feed at the Horse and Jockey Pub afterwards.

Dan MacPherson placed second in the Elite C race. Report to come.

Charles Coin Memorial - 31st July 2011

It was a course that suited the brave that could sit near the front as there were very few opportunities to make a move. Very little wind, narrow roads and no discernible climbs meant the pelotons would stick together and ultimately finish in a bunch sprint.

Peter Collins and Seb Scott fronted for Elite B/Masters A and and managed to score a 7th and 9th respectively. Dan, Justin and Peter P. started the line in the Elite C/Masters B race. Dan tried to attack on lap two but found himself alone for most of the lap and with no real advantage so he returned to the peleton. In the end the boys finished in the top half of the sixty strong field.

Masters C had a good lineup with five Bikeline Racing members in it, Bob, Charlie, Lou and Peter M. and Peter H. They stayed at the front of the race controlling it at various stages and once again the narrow roads dictated the end results. Lou managed to finish the highest in 5th place.

Sizzling Summer Series Rd 3 - 13th March 2011

The third and final round of the Sizzling Summer Series was held over the weekend and again saw quite a few Bikeline Racing members in attendance.

After missing the break in the second round the Elite B boys made sure that didn't happen again. With Peter Bennett still in yellow they had to make sure that he was in the points this week to ensure he finished as the overall leader.

All was going to plan with the boys lifting the pace into the final lap. Peter Bennett was tucked in behind Peter Collins until another rider decided that he wanted to sit behind Peter Collins and in turn took out Peter Bennett (all these Peter's are confusing!). This led Peter B. to slide across the road and also bring down Raf Vainikka while narrowly avoiding Jacob Mouatt. Peter Collins heard what happened and realised he would have to go alone. And so he did. Peter Collins first.

With Bennett not finishing and not receiving points for the third round, this dropped him from first overall to third overall. Peter Collins win combined with his 4th from round one was enough for him to score second overall. So Bikeline Racing 2nd and 3rd overall!!! Over the series there was great teamwork on show and to think this is only the start of the year. Good work boys.

It wasn't only the Elite B boys riding well but in Masters C Kent Wright finished 7th in this race and in Masters D, Phil Leyden scored 6th, enough for him to pick up some points.

Thank you Pat Woods for keeping us updated with photos, they will be featured on the website soon.

Sizzling Summer Series Rd 1 - 27th February 2011

Sunday was the first round of the Sizzling Summer Series at Crestmead. This is always a big event with many riders eager to win down there.

This year saw Wayne Bennett make a return to the club and get straight back into A Grade and face some very tough competition.

The results from B Grade almost looked the same as the Oakey 2 Day with Bikeline Racing's Peter Bennett taking first, the Hitachi rider in second (4th at Oakey) and the same Tinelli rider in third again. This time Peter Collins managed to take 4th after leading Peter B to 200m out. The boys went in with a plan and read the race perfectly. Now with two from two, Peter is definitely going to be a marked man.

Charlie Bennett finished top ten and Kent Wright finished top twenty in their races as well.

If anyone else has any results please contact us.

Also special mention to Papparazzi Pat for taking photos and surprising the boys with a cold esky full of goodies. They said they will return the favour when you do Maryborough Masters this year.

Oakey 2 Day - 13th February 2011

2011_Oakey2Day 001.jpg

The Oakey 2 Day was the first race of the season where the Elite B team were out in force. Whilst the Criterium was cancelled on the Saturday this left fresh legs for the Sunday. Six riders fronted the line with a clear game plan, to have Peter Bennett and Seb Scott at the front of the pack out of the last corner. Everyone played their role and read the race perfectly. Peter Bennett was first out of the corner and held that position until he crossed the line to win his first road event. Seb was third wheel but was unlucky to snap his chain as he powered out of the corner. Up until then it was looking like there would be two Bikeline Racing riders on the podium. Great racing from Dave Kenney who was in an early break and from Damien Nielsen who did some great efforts on the front to lift the pace. Special mention to Raf Vainnika who whilst he was wearing his Velocite-Auscycle Coaching colours also rode an awesome race.

Masters B saw Andy Gordon and Michael Bond take the road. The pace looked to be pretty hot for the entire race with Andy being well positioned each time they came through the start finish. In the end he finished in 5th place just running out of legs in the sprint.

Masters C had Charlie Bennet, Kent Wright and Nic Byron flying the Bikeline colours. Nic found the pace a bit hot for his first race of the year and withdrew early. Charlie and Kent were able to hold on and finished with the bunch.

Synergy Park Crit Results - 23rd January 2011

A few Bikeline Racing members headed to Synergy again for some more Crit Racing over the weekend with great results from all.

Raf and Gabby were wearing the colours of their new sponsored team, Velocite-Aus Cycle Coaching, with Gab racing D grade and Raf racing A grade. Gabby ended up in a break away and managed to finish 2nd in the sprint and Raf sprinted from the bunch to take 5th place in his race.

Kiwi and Jacob were racing B grade. Kiwi had the legs for the day and was in the first break with a few riders. When the break was caught he launched another attack this time only bringing two riders with him. Towards the end they dropped the third rider and he managed to take second in the sprint for the line. After taking some time off the bike, Jacob realised he has some training to do.

Synergy Park Crit Results - 9th January 2011

Racing in the rain is starting to be the norm these days in Queensland. It was no different on Sunday 9 January when two Bikeline racing members travelled down to Synergy Park in Ipswich for the Ipswich Cycling Club’s Sunday morning crits.

Jesse Hennessy raced in C-grade, regularly leading the pack during the race and then overpowering the group in the sprint for second, after a Logan City rider had made a successful breakaway with a few laps to go to win the race.

Raf Vainikka raced in B-grade with B-grade and A-grade combined. Raf raced for the first time with his Velocite-Aus Cycle Coaching Development Squad team mates, with some from the squad racing in B-grade and some in A-grade.

On the first lap, Raf with two of his Development Squad team mates Kasey Clark and Sam Moore who rode in A-grade made a breakaway. The boys worked together well, alternating leads, extending the lead to the main group to 1min 15sec towards the end, averaging 41.5km/h for the entire race. The breakaway was successful and Raf won B-grade convincingly with the other Development Squad team mates securing one and two in A-grade.
