CRITERIUM 3  - 18th February 2012

Thanks everyone for coming out. Nice weather and only a bit of wind made for some great racing. A good crowd watching too. (a few of them should have been racing:) There were a few riders riding for the first time and a few that hadn't had a go for a while. Good efforts by all.

A GRADE: (4 riders) 1. Darren Rolfe 2. Seb Scott 3. Haydon Brooks :
Mixed with the B graders Seb and Pete Collins set the pace with the help of a few B graders. The pace was solid for most of the race. Darren and Haydon brought the the chase pack back up to the lead for a big sprint finish.

B GRADE: (17 riders) 1. Trent West 3. Wesley Keep 3. Jordan D'Arcy
With the A graders in the mix it was a tough day out for some. Trent helped set the pace all race. Wesley did well to rejoin the lead group after initially losing contact and a great ride by Jordan who continues to improve to pick up 3rd. Notible ride by Tory Watson to be in the mix at the end too.

C GRADE: (22 riders) 1. Tom Galbraith 2. Mitchell Hawley 3. Jason Seaby
The C graders stuck together most of the race witha a few unsuccessful attempts until 2 to go then Tom burst out of the blocks and before he knew it had a solid break. Reaction was slow initially and Tom rode well to hold off the chasing bunch for the final 2 laps. Mitchell and Jason won the bunch gallop and notibly Cormac Carey was in the mix for 4th. Also good to see a few riders taking up the option of a 3 day licence just to get some race experience. John Cunningham:) and Scott Mazzanti both riding strong in C grade for newcomers.

D GRADE: (8 riders) 1. Phil Leydon 2. Steven Dummett 3. Greg Webb
With no Andrea to keep Phil honest it, Phil got to the front and set a solid tempo and rode away with a convincing gap to take the win. Steven in his first race I believe rode well and also soloed to the line for 2nd. Greg improved as the race went on and moved up to 3rd. Good to see new comer Lachaln Stummer having a go too.

JUNIORS: (3 riders) 1. Nicholas Markey 2. Sam Haycock 3. Taylor Silk
The boys went from the gun and never giving up until the line was well and trully crossed. Sprinting hard to the end. Well done boys!

NEXT RACE : 3rd MARCH - Please come and support it.

CRITERIUM 2  - 21st January 2012

by Jon Lindley

Juniors: With just four competitors, the boys raced closely and showed good riding skills before enjoying the MARs bars on offer at the podium.

D Grade: WIth 8 competitors starting this race quickly turned into a 3 person race with Andrea, Jack and Phil breaking away early. Late in the race Andrea found another gear and rode off the front to leave Jack and Phil to fight out the minor placings. One for the girls!

C Grade: A big field again for the C grade and a solid pace right from the gun saw a few drop off the back in the first half. Those remaining stayed together for a drag to the end. Adam Grams had a big turn around after his DNF last week & showed great pace to hold off Tony Nolan who was returning to racing after sometime.

B Grade: Former elite A rider, Brady Cumming stirred the pack right from the gun. After a few attempts a break-away of 4 developed – Brady, Chris Maycock, Trent West and Matthew Haswell. These 4 guys rode like a well oiled machine and continued through out the race to put ground on the pack. This may have been helped by “team Dalby” putting “the brakes on” too to let their man get away?? A strong sprint by new comer Trent saw him take the win for the first time.

A Grade: Smaller field this week, with a few regulars away. The pack staying together until mid race. Here Seb, Peter and then Raf jumped off the front until the final laps. Strong riding by Darren Rolfe soon brought the pack back together. Here Darren proved himself as a good lead-out man for Campbell who just held off Peter Collins in a close finish.

CRITERIUM 1  - 14th January 2012

Race Report from Aaron Haycock (TCC) :
A total of 61 senior riders + 5 juniors with some riders travelling from as far away as Ipswich & Dalby to join the 3 local clubs on the world class circuit. Gloomy skies threatened to disrupt the 1st of 3 events though not a drop fell.

A change of course for the senior riders saw the regular full 1780m loop being reduced to an 1100m hotdog style course, allowing for some high speed racing, unfortunately it also lead to a spill or 2 in most grades. Glad to report no major injuries just bruised egos & a few band aids.

Juniors: local under 11 Nick Markey pushed the only under 13 Ben Lingard all the way to the finish, Ben got the result in the end with Nick 2nd & Taylor Silk rounding out the podium.

D grade: After 25minutes & 2 laps of racing it was left to under 15 state champ Caleb Genrich to take the top spot, the podium was rounded out by Jason Page 2nd & Phil Laydon 3rd

C grade: A few tentative moments saw a couple of falls during the race, all involved were OK. the podium saw Tom Galbraith take top spot, with Matthew Locker holding out for 2nd (could it be time to move to B Grade) and Chris Lembo in his 1st outing for 3rd.

B grade: A massive field saw future A garder Sam Beck jump early on their  40 minute journey, the rest of the bunch failed to reel him in and Sam did a great job taking 1st place, 2nd was taken by Trent West & Kent Bauer rounded out the podium for a strong 3rd.

A grade: with all the local gun riders in town this was the race to watch, Darren Rolfe & Haydn Brooks took it upon themselve to shut down every move, making it hard for anyone to get away. Rafael Vainikka, Damien Neilsen & Peter Watts made a few sprited attempts but to no avail. with 2 laps to go Darren Rolfe & Hayden Brooks rode away from the rest to takes 1st & 2nd respectively Seb Scott rode strong to round out the podium. Unfortunately on the last lap a touch of wheels saw a rider hit the deck (again no injuries).

In closing out it was great to see so many riders support this local club event, Again it will be awesome if this becomes a weekly occurance.
Also a vote of thanks to all volunteers & our Commisaires Mr Greg Vincent & Mr Glen Trussel. without these people local racing would be unable to thrive.
