Club Champs Crit Race 3  - 13th November  2010

The Crit Series moved to Dalby this week courtesy of the Dalby Tri Club. The riders were treated to a closed road circuit which meant not having to worry about vehicles so the riders could really concentrate on the race itself.

Thank you to Brad Caporn for being Assistant Commissiare and providing the race notes.

Juniors ony had a small field of four riders with some of the "older" juniors racing D grade.  Cormack Ebbage took out the under 12's and Taylor Silk taking out the under 10's.

D Grade had 10 riders front the start line for the 30minute plus 2 lap race. At the 10 minute mark four riders consisting of Mark Vainikka, Ben Wylie, Greg Rockliff and Michael Bond made a break. The break managed to stay away for the remainder of the race with it coming down to a sprint. Mark V. taking the win.

C Grade was merged with B Grade due to a lack of numbers. This made it a field of 21. They were racing for 40 minutes plus 2 laps and it was also to include a prime. Rod Lingard jumped from the start but was reeled back in before the 6 min mark. This must have hurt as he was dropped later at the 22 minute mark. His work for Team TLD done. At the 17minute mark four riders consisting of Raph V, Matt Le Dilly, Ashley Seawright and Matt Haswell made a sizeable break on the peloton. The prime whistle was blown at 23 minutes with Raph taking it easily.

The bunch caught the break at 27 minutes and was to remain together until the two laps to go was given when Raph V. jumped again and was able to stay away for the win. The other places came down to a bunch sprint with Dave "Cav" Silk taking second from Matt Le Dilly third.

A Grade had seven riders start with the race shortened to 40 minutes plus 3 laps. The first 20 minutes consisted of what looked to be planned attacks from Alex, Jacob and Kiwi, both individually and together. It wasn't until the 25th minute when Pete and Kiwi jumped that it was to last for more than a couple laps. Ben had a quick wheel change at 37 minutes so had a lap out. Pete caught the bunch just after the 3laps to go signal so was effectively 1 lap up. He was to sit in with them and finish one lap early. Kiwi held his gap from the bunch to take second and third was taken by Peter Bennett after holding off Campbell in the sprint.

Thank you to all riders for attending and for riding safe. Thank you to Sam Beck, Jon Lindley and Brad Caporn for your asistance.

Double Header Weekend - 6 & 7th November 2010

CRITERIUM REPORT

The Crit saw some good numbers once again across all the grades. It was really exciting to see some new riders trying their hand at racing with D Grade having their largest field ever. Gary also brought some of his charges up from Brisbane to provide some unknown competition in A grade.

D Grade stayed together for the majority of the race with the exception of Matt who tried to stretch the legs on a couple of occasions to only pull up short with cramps. It came down to a sprint with Steve just edging out Mark V. and Lochie Head. It was also great to see Gabby and Eve stepping up from Juniors to run against the men.

C Grade held together for the majority of the first half of the race until a three man breakaway of Matt, Dustin and John took off at the 18min mark. This break was successful to the end with it coming down to the sprint. John was out of the corner early and was able to hold until the end. John was first in D grade last race, first in C grade this week lest see if he can take first in B grade next week.

B Grade was going to be interesting with some new faces showing up and it was great to see Charlie back on course to hopefully teach the young pups a thing or two about race craft. Andy broke away at the 11min mark only to be reeled back in but it must have been only to record an "effort" on his power meter. At the two laps to go signal Raph, Andy and Kent B. put a significant gap into the rest of the bunch and were able to hold onto it until the end. Raph won by a convincing margin over Kent with Andy easing up before the line almost losing third to Charlie who was powering in hard behind.

A Grade once again had a quality field and it was apparent from the early minutes that Gary had a plan in place. First to jump (6min mark) was Ben who had a sizeable lead only to go back to the bunch, then Jack (10 min mark) jumped only to come back and then it was Gary's turn. Obviously there was a plan there for the three to attack the bunch. At the 38min mark both Gary and Ben made a short break. With 2 to go Macca made a break and it looked like it was going to succeed until Jacob and Alex closed it in but it was Seb and Pete who were able to reel Macca in on the bottom corner to both sprint for the line. Seb first Pete second.

ROAD RACE

It was always going to be possible that there would be small numbers for the Road Race on Sunday with the Bris to Gold Coast ride on the same day. Only the diehards were in attendance and the usually tough course was only made tougher with strong breezes blowing over it.

Two C grade riders were elevated to B grade to combine the races due to short numbers. The riders were to do 3 laps of the 17.5km course. Both times through the start finish line Raph was in the lead with Ashley close behind. The first time through the bunch were still fairly well together but the second time through it was definitely splintered. Raf once again proving he's too strong.

A grade were in for 4 laps of the course. Macca came through the start finish line with a 28 second lead over the following four riders. Kiwi and Seb weren't with the group at this stage and were to come in and retire 5min behind Macca. Second time through Macca had a lead of 40 seconds over Pete and Gary and to the spectators shock Gary retiring with a strained back. Jack and Ben came in some minutes after only to withdraw as well. With only two riders still on course a message was sent to the riders to inform them that the race has been reduced to three laps. Macca started to tire and this allowed Pete to catch him. It came down to the sprint finish with Macca deservedly taking the win.

Club Champs Crit Racing - 23nd October  2010

The weather was perfect for the first round of the Club Crit Champs Series. There were over 40 riders registered for the day including 10 juniors. It was positive to see some new riders getting Day Licenses as well as some old faces coming out of retirement and signing up for the afternoon.

D grade was blown apart by early attacks from John who will now find himself racing B grade next time. C Grade stayed fairly well together for the whole race with it coming down to the last corner and the sprint from young boys.

B grade was interesting to watch with Raph testing the rest of the field with an early break. This was brought back fairly soon. Nick had a go a little later but it was not until  a break of three including Aaron, Raph and Dave that really split the field. The break succeeded and it was an exciting sprint to the line. Raph and Dave were the favourites but it was Aaron who was able to hold until the line.

A grade had a quality field and there were any number of riders that could take it. The first two laps were held at quick pace until the group settled into some sort of rhythm. There were constant changes of pace with some riders attempting a break or at least not making it easy for the rest of the bunch. It came down to a bunch sprint and Seb was able to take it from Dave and Gary.

All in all a good afternoons racing.

Kingsthorpe Oakey ITT Results - 12th September 2010

Thank you to Viv for commissaire duties and Dustin's dad for helping out with timing and holding riders steady for the start of the race.  Riders seemed to "enjoy" the new course and dispite the wind picking up a little, some very consistant times were set.  The juniors ran as a team in preperation for the Junior Team Time Trial, so fingers crossed it has given them some experience and all the best for the up coming Team's race.  It was also fantastic to see some of the girls/ladies out for the race and mixing it up with the boys.

Road Race 2 Results - 19th July 2010

Fantastic day for racing - sunny and no wind.  Everyone turning up on time and quite a number of spectators to cheer on the riders.  Bunch sprints in all grades meant the fields were evenly matched.  Good to see a big bunch of juniors also present.  The juniors did a lap of the course as a training ride.

Big thank you to volunteers: Flora Clarke, Renato van Nek and Mark Vainikka (Registration & Judging), Michael Borg & Brian Schmacker (A grade follow vehicle), Aaron Benson & Peter Bennett (B grade follow vehicle), Doug Graham (C grade follow vehicle & A lead).  Also a huge shout out to Jon Lindley for doing commissaire duties on Saturday and Sunday.  Without him, there wouldn't be any racing.

ITT Results - 17th July 2010

With temperatures at -2 degrees on the turn-a-round, it was a great turn-out from the cycling community for the first race of the new series.  Gary pulled out a blinder which proves training does help.  Let's see how the riders can backup for tomorrows race.

Mt Kynock & Goombungee Race Weekend - 10-11th April 2010

MT KYNOCK KOM - SATURDAY 10TH APRIL 2010

Once again a reasonable turnout for the test of truth from Harlaxton to Highfields. Aero helmets, disc wheels and skinsuits made an appearance which indicates how serious some riders are treating this race. With weather conditions near perfect, most riders made an improvement on their times from the last race in November 2009.

The times of some riders clearly indicated the need to bump them up a grade for Sundays Road Race!!
